Hey. I am a high school art teacher.
I have been teaching visual art for 20 years.
I have seen and experienced the gradual, but quick rise of the computer.
I have seen the birth of it's offspring, the cell phone.
My students are SHOCKED that I don't have a cell phone.
Friends and family are SHOCKED that I don't have a cell phone.
As a teacher, I use technology ALL DAY.
So, it's not as if I am totally separated from the culture of technology.
My goal as a teacher is to go paperless. I am almost there.
My students turn in their work on a digital art portfolio.
Nope, no more turn in boxes.
All of our class assignments are posted on Google Classroom.
Yep, fewer handouts.
I fully embrace the use of technology in schools.
I encourage my students to use their smart phones in class.
My school district uses Google for Education tools, but we are not 1:1.

I also offer an alternative to the phone, the Chromebook.
I have a desktop computer in my classroom.
I have a chrome book issued by my school district.
At home my family uses an iPad, a Fire tablet, and a Kindle.
At home we have a land line (that never drops a call).
Why would I need a smart phone?
